DOMINICA

The Dominica island has a wild Caribbean setting, as well as the rural life that has largely disappeared on the more developed islands. It is one of the poorest and lease developed islands in the Caribbean, where many of its citizens make a subsistence living from fishing or working the land. There are no casinos and no megaresort hotels and hardly any road signs. The capital of Dominica is Roseau.

Yearly rainfall varies from 50 inches along the dry west coast to as much as 350 inches in the tropical rain forests of the mountainous interior, where downpours are not uncommon.

It is known for hiking and mountain climbing, in addition to its landscapes and rivers. Scuba diving is becoming increasingly popular. It also has clear rivers, waterfalls, hot springs and boiling lakes.
